Pearson VUE integration for certification programs

CredFlow connects your certification program to Pearson VUE so eligibility and results move automatically instead of by spreadsheet. Today the integration runs over secure SFTP - CredFlow uploads candidate eligibility to Pearson VUE and downloads exam results back into the platform - and a direct VUE Connect API integration is on the roadmap. Built by Electric Software LLC.

What “integrating with Pearson VUE” actually means

Most certification programs deliver their exams through Pearson VUE's test centers and online proctoring, but the program's own system of record - where applications, eligibility, certifications, and renewals live - is separate. Integration is about keeping those two systems in sync: telling Pearson VUE who is allowed to test, and getting the results back without anyone re-typing them.

CredFlow handles both directions of that exchange as part of the credential lifecycle, so the exam step is just another automated, audit-logged transition rather than a manual handoff.

How it works today: SFTP eligibility and results

The current, production integration is file-based over secure SFTP - a long-established and fully supported Pearson VUE exchange method.

Outbound: eligibility upload

When a candidate clears your eligibility rules and pays any required exam fee, CredFlow generates an eligibility file and uploads it to Pearson VUE over SFTP. That authorizes the candidate to schedule and sit the correct exam within the window you define.

Inbound: results download

After the candidate tests, CredFlow downloads the results file from Pearson VUE and updates the candidate's record. That result drives pass/fail logic, re-test eligibility windows, and - on a pass - certificate issuance, certificate numbering, and digital badge tokens.

What data flows, and what it triggers

  • Eligibility (CredFlow → Pearson VUE): candidate identity, the exam they are authorized for, and the eligibility window.
  • Results (Pearson VUE → CredFlow): exam outcome and score data, used to apply your pass/fail rules.
  • Downstream in CredFlow: automatic certification issuance, re-test window handling, public verification entry, and shareable digital badges - each step written to the immutable audit log.

On the roadmap: VUE Connect API

A direct VUE Connect API integration is planned. The API would allow near real-time exchange rather than scheduled file transfers, but it is not available today - we want to be precise about that. Programs go live now on the SFTP integration, and an API path is part of where CredFlow is heading.

Who this is for

This integration is for certification boards, licensing bodies, and certifying organizations that already deliver - or plan to deliver - their exams through Pearson VUE and want eligibility and results tied directly to the rest of the credential lifecycle: application, certification, continuing education, and renewal. It is especially useful for programs working toward NCCA or ISO 17024 recognition, where a clean, audit-logged exam record matters.

Getting set up

The Pearson VUE exchange is configured during onboarding. Implementations typically take 8-16 weeks with a dedicated implementation manager, and data migration from spreadsheets, custom portals, Salesforce-based setups, and legacy platforms is included.
