What NCCA accreditation evaluates

The NCCA Standards look at whether a certification program is built and operated to be fair, valid, and reliable. In broad terms, a reviewing body examines areas such as:

• Psychometric soundness of the examination - how items are developed, scored, and validated.
• Governance and the independence of certification decisions from training or other commercial interests.
• Documented, published policies and procedures applied consistently to all candidates.
• Recertification requirements that keep credentials current.
• Complete, retrievable records that demonstrate the program operates as documented.

Accreditation applies to the program, not the software

It is important to be precise here: NCCA accredits the certifying organization's program. A platform or vendor cannot itself be “NCCA accredited.” What software can do is make it easier for a program to meet and evidence the Standards.
